My Story

Snowdonia for Science was founded in 2008 by the inspiring Matt Rannamets, who had prostate cancer. He wanted to bring like-minded people together to raise funds and take on a unique challenge. Prostate cancer sadly took Matt’s life, but his legacy lives on with this inspiring event.

On 13th June 2026, I am taking part in Snowdonia for Science 2026. I will be trekking to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in aid of Prostate Cancer Research, alongside my wife, Celia, and my colleagues from IT Naturally.

This cause is deeply personal to me as I am taking on this challenge in loving memory of my granddad, who sadly passed away from prostate cancer. To make this event even more meaningful, I am dedicating my upcoming birthday to this cause, turning this trek into a birthday fundraiser to honour his life and legacy.

The best part of reaching the summit will be knowing that each step we take—alongside the other supporters participating with us—is a step towards raising vital funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Research.

Together, with your donations and our determination to get to the top, we can take on Snowdon and transform the lives of people with prostate cancer by advancing diagnosis, developing treatments, and securing universal screening.

Snowdonia for Science 2026 is about community and the immense strength that comes from people uniting with a shared purpose: to stop prostate cancer from unnecessarily and prematurely claiming the lives of the men we love.

Support us today, and give us that extra courage to reach the summit for my granddad.
