About

In 2008, Matt Rannamets founded Snowdonia for Science after his own prostate cancer diagnosis. His vision was simple but powerful: bring people together to take on an inspiring challenge while raising vital funds for research.

Although prostate cancer sadly took Matt’s life, his legacy lives on through this incredible event — a community united by determination, hope, and action.

On 13th June 2026, we will be taking part in Snowdonia for Science — and for us, this year, it couldn’t be more personal.

Last year, our Dad, Lynton, was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

What followed was one of the toughest periods our family has faced. In order to qualify for surgery and give himself the best possible chance of recovery, Dad made an extraordinary commitment. Through strict calorie control, sheer determination, and walking nearly 20 miles a week, he lost 4 stone in just 3 months.

It wasn’t easy. It took discipline, resilience, and an incredible amount of mental strength.

But it worked.

He successfully underwent surgery — and today, we are beyond grateful to say he is cancer free.

Now, rather than simply moving on, Dad is determined to give something back. Together — Lynton, Stephen, and I (Richard) — we will be trekking to the summit of Mount Snowdon, also known as Yr Wyddfa.

Three men. Three family members. One mountain. One deeply personal cause.

Every step we take up Snowdon represents:

  • Gratitude for successful treatment

  • Hope for earlier diagnosis

  • Better options for men facing this disease

  • And support for families walking a similar path

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. Thanks to research and medical advances, Dad had options. But too many men are still diagnosed late, and too many families still lose the men they love.

That’s why we’re raising funds for Prostate Cancer Research — to advance diagnosis, develop better treatments, and move closer to universal screening.

Snowdonia for Science is about community and collective strength. For us, it’s about standing side by side — as father and sons — turning a difficult chapter into something positive.

If you can support us, we would be incredibly grateful.

Your donation will not only help push us to the summit — it will help fund life-saving research and give hope to other families facing prostate cancer.

We’re climbing Snowdon because we can.
We’re fundraising because others might not get that chance.

Thank you so much for your support,

Richard, Stephen & Lynton
